Starting to Plan for a Lodge at Oak Hill Escape

Updated: Sep 20

We had to decide what to offer at Oak Hill Escape and wanted something different. Not just different in terms of the structure, but also offer guests something that is often missing. Privacy and a chance to actually escape from the chaos of everyday life. There are so many Pods and green static caravans in Powys that all have their place, but more often than not they are sited close and offer little outdoor private space.

The secluded area was decided upon as it was more sheltered, offered views, but importantly could not be seen by or impact on any of the few neighbouring properties. A plan was therefore put in place to eventually erect just 3 lodges or similar, well spaced out from each other and with lots of planting to enhance the area further.

We found a company in Scotland to manufacture the lodges and believe that these are the only ones like this in Wales at the moment.

A planning application was eventually submitted after every task had been completed and all boxes ticked.

At this point, we'd met the planning advisors, senior planning officer, ecologist, topography team, traffic survey person and had also conducted percolation tests to check the water drainage. Fee after fee was paid and one by one, each section was signed off.

Aside from a few minor alterations, Planning Permission was eventually granted.

New tarmac was laid (another condition from highways), bat & bird boxes installed, low level LED lighting ordered, a planting plan approved and the first lodge ordered.
